Police Appeal following a Burglary on Aldern Way, Bakewell

Police are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at an address on Aldern Way, Bakewell.  

It is believed the burglary happened some time between the 13th and 19th March 2026.  

If you saw anything untoward or you have cctv / dashcam footage which shows anything suspicious in the area  during this timeframe, please contact us on 101 quoting crime reference 26000159333.

As this is also causing some concern in the area we are offering the following crime prevention checklist, please share with any elderly relatives who may not be on social media.

Ensure patio/French doors have additional top and bottom bolts.

Use timer switches on lights, radios, or TVs when out.
Keep curtains/blinds closed at night but open during the day.
Avoid leaving notes or posting online that you’re away.

Fit a burglar alarm—ideally a monitored or audible alarm.
Install CCTV or video doorbells covering access points.
Ensure security cameras are clearly visible—deterrence works.

🚪 4. Protect Outdoor Areas

Lock gates with robust padlocks.
Maintain good lighting, especially motion‑activated lights.
Keep hedges and shrubs trimmed to remove hiding places.
Mark property or use forensic marking solutions (e.g., SmartWater).

Keep valuables out of sight from windows.
Store high‑value items in a secure safe, fixed to a wall or floor.
Photograph jewellery/serial numbers for records.

Use hasp-and-staple bolts and closed‑shackle padlocks.
Fit an alarm to your shed or garage.
Lock tools away—don’t give burglars equipment they can use.

👀 7. Neighbourhood Cohesion

Encourage neighbours to look out for each other’s homes.
Join or create a Neighbourhood Watch group.
Report suspicious behaviour promptly.

📱 8. Online Awareness

Avoid posting holiday dates or expensive purchases online.
Use privacy settings on social media accounts.
Don’t share photos that reveal your home layout or security systems.

🚨 9. Immediate Concerns

If you see something suspicious: Call 101 (or 999 if a crime is in progress).
Encourage victims to report burglaries as soon as possible so officers can attend, preserve evidence, and investigate.
